What ruins any vacation? A working vacation, right? Jesus died and rose again so that we could go on religious vacation. He died so we might be free from having to work harder for God and instead be free to live in freedom with God. What rules does God expect us to follow? What is the difference between religion and relationship? Paul teaches us that joy is found in believing the right things about our faith and he shares those things with us in Philippians 3.

Who is your best friend? What qualifies them to be so? How important is it to have friends in faith who will stand with you no matter what? What are the qualities of such people? In today's study we learn that there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother/sister and for Paul those men were Timothy and Epaphroditus. What do these men teach us about the qualities of a true friend? What do these men teach us about how to be a friend?

"The Joy of Working Out" - The Road to Joy - Philippians 2:12-18

Working out can be both a bummer and a blessing. You get to see great results but it requires a lot of sacrifice to see those results. What does it mean to do a "salvation work out"? What are the benefits of such a workout? What are the sacrifices? Paul teaches us that even though working out your salvation can be tough, its a necessary work out if you want to look fabulous in faith!

"The Joy of Losing" - The Road to Joy - Philippians 2:1-11

No one likes to lose. Winning isn't everything...its the only thing! If you hate losing an argument then you and yours spouse will be arguing a lot. If you don't want to back down from your teenagers request than you will be at odds most likely. Still--someone has to win don't they? Paul uses the example of Jesus Christ to show us that losing actually makes you a winner and that humility is the winning team to be on.

"The Joy of Citizenship" - The Road to Joy - Philippians 1:27-30

Most would agree that even with all its issues the U.S.A is the greatest country in the world in which to live. There are many privileges and benefits to being a citizen of the United States but there are also requirements and responsibilities. Are there requirements and responsibilities to being a citizen of the Kingdom of God? What are they? Are there also privileges? Paul teaches us in his letter to the Philippians that true joy in the Kingdom of God is found in unity, belief, fearlessness, and suffering.

Sometimes it can be tough to see in life? What do you do when life becomes a fog due to suffering, trials, and unrealized expectations? Does God still want to use you during those seasons of your life or do you have to wait until everything is "better" again? The apostle Paul teaches us what is most important to remember during these times so that our suffering isn't wasted.

"The Joy of Confidence?" - The Road to Joy - Philippians 1:1-11

Confidence is an important thing for people to have in life. If you're not confident in the economy, your spouse's loyalty, or your future as a young person, you're left to feel very insecure and possibly hopeless about a bright future. Confidence is also important when it comes to having a relationship with God. What happens when your relationship with God isn't going well? What happens when Christians around you seem to never grow up into maturity? How confident are you that you or they will ever really change? In the beginning of Paul's letter to the Philippians, he gives us the answer to where our confidence should be and who and what we should be putting it in?

"Directions V" - Living Servants

What is the most effective way to influence people for Jesus? Is it with our words? Is it with our works? Is it both? What did Jesus save you for? Someone once said, "Preach the Gospel at all times....use words if necessary". Being a "Living Servant" means that you live in such a way that you are ready to give your life away to your brothers and sisters in Christ and to the world at any moment. Living a servant lifestyle means you are willing to serve with your time, talent, and treasure in whatever way God asks you to and in any location. As we do this, the world around us will want to know why we do the things we do and we will get to use our "words" to tell them. But, we must first begin by telling them with our lives.

"Directions III & IV" - Living Mercy and Living Community

"Living Mercy" for the Christian means all relationships and locations are as sacred as the church building we meet in on Sunday morning. We become the fragrance of Christ and people get to smell what Jesus is like by seeing what we are like. "Living Community" means Christians go beyond surface relationships and share everything together--needs, burdens, sins, possessions....everything. These are the directions for life for the Christian who follows Jesus and these are the "Directions" for Daybreak Community Church.

"Directions I and II" - Living History and Living Forward

Part one of a six part series covering the shared values of Daybreak Community Church. As we embrace these values together we're able to accomplish and experience all that God has for us as His people. Our history as the people of God has led us to believe in and hold on to truths that determine the way we live our lives. We also are challenged to step into history ourselves and ask God "how can you use me right where I am?" just like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and others stepped into a given point in history as God offered them the opportunity to be used by Him.
